Her Internship Diary: Letters Against Depression – Vol. 3!

Wow!! I can’t believe it’s already been four weeks! Time sure flies by when you’re having fun!

Week Four Tasks:

  • Attend the first Panel Meeting to brainstorm ideas for our group project!
  • Film and edit two videos for LAD social media – stay tuned!
  • Work on my Presentation Slides for my Zoom Community Events!
  • Share our schedules for next large team meeting!
  • Brainstorm for fundraiser event – ask family and friends for ideas!
  • Figure out and prepare for the In Person event.
  • Have my first 1:1 with the Intern Coordinator (Kim!)
  • Start training for Grant Writing! Eek! (which starts next week!)
  • Complete three diagnostic tests for Grant Writing. Eek!

As you can see, this week we did a lot of brainstorming as to how our zoom community events, fundraisers, and in person events will go. Which consisted of making graphics on Canva, figuring out who and where to partner with, asking around for fundraiser ideas, and figuring out the logistics of an in person event. Where to have it, what to do, etc. We only had two videos to film and edit, but I got started on some future ones ahead of time. I really love the process of filming and editing!!

Ever since I borrowed this laptop from a close friend, I’ve been spending a lot of time at my desk – which my dad and I found at the side of the road. I love having a desk of my own, that I actually use! My previous workspaces were my bed, or on the floor – so it feels great having a designated place to sit, be creative and work. I really only used desks as decor pieces at my last place.

This internship has really ignited my creativity again… and it feels amazing! I was in a bit of a funk but thankfully I’m back at it. Below is a photo of my workspace if you’re curious. It’s filled with things that bring me joy.

Here is the calendar of events for Letter’s Against Depression. Make sure to check it out! I’d love to have you at my events if your schedule allows! Just follow the link. And, comment if you have any questions? The first event is on June 22nd at 3-4 PM EST! We’ll be cultivating our creativity by learning how to do Faux Calligraphy or Fauxlligraphy! If this interests you – stop by, theres no skill needed. It’ll just be a fun time. The next one is June 28th at 5-6PM EST, and it’s about where you can find the best stickers! And, lastly we’ll be learning about Mail TagJuly 26th at 5-6PM EST.

For my fundraiser, I’ll be doing a stamp drive – hopefully with an organization. My thought is that I’ll have a small booth where I can collect postage stamps for Letters Against Depression or donations towards the costs of postage. As you can imagine, the largest expense is postage, since all mail is routed through the Founder – Robert Mason. This necessary step enables LAD to check the letters for quality, track sent letters in the database, and keep personal mailing addresses/last names confidential.  Any donations whether physical stamps or online will help offset this necessary expense and keep LAD growing! My poster I designed and will be using is to the right.

What I’ve learned this past week:

  • Things that scare you are oh so worth it!
  • Time management is important.
  • The behind the scenes of organizing events.
  • Communication is KEY!
  • How much I love Canva (again!)
  • Stressing and worrying doesn’t achieve anything!
  • How much I love my desk space.

Thanks for reading!
