Unveiling My Blogging Journey: Engaging with the Rag Tag Community’s Prompts!
I found the Rag Tag Community and fell in love with the idea behind the blog. I decided I would follow along and do Tuesday’s prompt – which is blogging. So, let’s dive in. As usual grab a cuppa and get comfy! If you’d like – you should check it out and follow along too! I’d love to see your posts!
Are you interested in blogging? Don’t know where to start? Read about my journey below!
Why I started Blogging:
Well, honestly it started out by being my way of getting myself back into journaling. Instead of sticking to one topic, I thought my blog would be all over the place… my thoughts, daily stories, fashion, interning experiences, memories, inspirations, etc – all jumbled up into one organized mess. In the past I started numerous blogs (and many other projects!) but I never knew what to write about, so it was quickly forgotten. After looking into it – I discovered that people who journal/blog apparently have better immune systems (!!!) Hmmm…. that alone is enough for me! Don’t you think?
My Blogging Journey:
I started blogging October 7th, 2010 as a 20 year old. I’m now 33 and I can honestly say I’ve learnt so much since then. I’ve had my hiatus’ as we all do, right? (my last one being 9 years – ouch!) but sometimes life happens and you have to put things on the back burner and then pick up where you left off. Here’s my first blog post. And, my first blogiversary. Fast forward to now, I’m still learning – but, I feel this is a new beginning with so many possibilities. I’m eager to meet new people and connect with y-o-u in the comments! What’s your journey been like so far?
How Blogging has impacted Me:
For one, it opened a whole world of connection with like-minded people. When I first started blogging I was in the penpal/snailmail community and blogging became a means of finding and connecting with people from all over the world. We wrote each other letters, and shared our lives through handwritten correspondence – aka the lost art of letter writing. This led to my participation in co-designing a penpal magazine and finally, a snailmail database. It was quite fun and I learned a lot.
Eventually, I even became an intern for Jennifer Lilya through a google search – it will always be one of my most cherished memories. Through this opportunity I honed my skill of fashion illustrating and even went to NYC to meet Jennifer. I won a Project Runway autographed copy (Heidi Klum!) on Twitter and even won two tickets to NYFW. Which I attended with a penpal! 2012 was such an amazing year! All in all, blogging showed me that if I put in the work and effort – dreams really do come true! All of this I gained no monetary value but I feel rich in experience. Which is better, in my humble opinion!
How has blogging impacted you?
Every time you post something online, you have a choice. You can either make it something that adds to the happiness levels in the world—or you can make it something that takes away. ~Zoe Sugg
In Conclusion:
My blogging journey has helped me in many ways – and not just my immune system! Haha. It’s helped my confidence in writing, helped to amp up my resume, inspired me to chase my dreams, fuelled my creative mojo, made me eager to continue learning, and served as a fun, healthy outlet. I’m oh so glad I’m back again – like I said, it feels so good to be here.
