Must Reads for Spring
¡Hola ladies and gents! How’s everyone today? I’ve been in the book mood lately (when am I not?), and wanted to share the ones I loved – so get your cats ready, fluff up your couch pillows and jump into these lovely books. I guarantee you’ll love them! Now, I’m definitely not a book reviewer, so don’t take my reviews seriously – just go and pick up these books! 😉
The Mailbox {by Mary Beth Whalen} – I picked this book up firstly because of the cover (sorry, I admit…I sort of judge books by their cover, tsk tsk I know. Not always though!) Secondly because it sounded very interesting – and lastly, it’s all about Kindred Spirits!! The book spans over the life of two main characters, (Lindsey and Campbell) over twenty years of their lives. It’s also inspired by an actual landmark mailbox in Sunset Beach, N.C. Ahh! I see another road trip in my future!! I don’t want to say too much but it’s a very intriguing romance, and an all-around good read!
Jane Eyre {by Charlotte Bronte} – I’ve been meaning to read more classics but just haven’t been able to get into them. This one surprisingly I’m doing pretty well with! The main character is a young orphan girl named Jane Eyre who unfortunately lives in the care of her aunt, who loathes and blindly punishes her. She eventually is sent to a boarding school for orphans which is run by a hypocritical minister. She endures and perseveres through the poor state of the school and reaches adulthood. She feels she should venture out into the world, and seek a governess position. Which later introduces her to Mr. Rochester. As time goes on, she questions whether or not her curious feelings of love for him are returned or not? I’m not too far in – but I’m loving it!
Room by {Emma Donoghue} – This book may actually be one of my all-time favourites and totally deserves a special spot on your bookshelf and in your heart! Trust me, you’ll fall in love with it, and read it so fast (even if you’re the slowest reader ever, ahem. Lindsey!) I really can’t do this book any justice by describing it, it’s just that inspiring! The book takes place mainly in a 11 x 11 room, which has a locked door and a skylight. The main characters are Jack and his Ma who have been living in the Room for 5 years. Told in Jack’s voice, Room is the story of a mother and son’s journey through life – under devastating circumstances and how their love brings them through it. This is one of those books you read over and over and never tire of!

you’re so cute Natalie, i too look at the covers and pass somewhat of a judgement. i’ve been thrown off before when doing that though b/c the insides weren’t quite as good as i thought. ah, another life lesson to be repeated and learned from ; )
