What’s in my Sketchbook?

I love reading what’s in my _____ ? posts so I thought I’d share what’s in my beloved sketchbook. In highschool, I used to use those cheapish spiral sketchbooks you could buy at Michaels. I was very particular and had to use the same kind every year. After becoming serious about art, and fashion illustration I decided to purchase a “big girl” sketchbook. I very quickly became attached – it was love at first sight, customizable and professional looking? I do!!

What do I draw in here, you ask? Mostly fashion illustrations, but as I learn more and attend classes it will contain; fashion flats, fabric pattern sketches, fabric swatches, portraits, watercolour sketches (when I’m good enough – don’t want to ruin my book!) and other lovely fashionable things.  I’m just getting back into things after a long art/blog hiatus so I’m hoping to try new things soon. Above and below are some of my current favourite illustrations, (the Jennifer Lilya one was lost in the mail though.) I’ve definitely improved since my last post, huh? If you’d like to see my older ones, and keep up with my illustrations check me out on deviantart or follow my art blog.

I also have a fashionary sketchbook, gifted to me by Jennifer Lilya and have been busy filling it up. I wrote a review about it a while back, and I’m still lovin’ it. I’m sure it will be of good use when I go to fashion school, as it has A LOT of definitions, fabric charts, measurements, brands, and other helpful goodies in the front few pages. Below are some of my sketches so far. (still working on ’em!)

What are five art supplies you can’t go without?

  • A pencil case/pencil cup!! – got to keep everything organized & looking pretty!
  • Micron Pens
  • My new Prismacolor pencils & markers. (ahhh!)
  • Buttons, buttons, buttons! & Ribbon
  • A good eraser and an extra piece of paper so nothing smudges!
