Her Internship Diary Vol. 1

Hi loves! I’ve been getting a bunch of questions about my internship so I decided to do a monthly post about it – sounds fun?  The posts or my “diary” will include; FAQ’s, tidbits of my job, sneak peeks to some JL projects, my growing portfolio of the work I do for her (graphic design), and other lovely goodies! I hope you guys will enjoy it!

I recently designed a header for her etsy shop and set it up, created an ad for Blonde Bedhead  and various other blogs, and whipped up a bunch of fun desktop wallpapers for her new “goodies” section on her blog. (more at my FB page) The other things I do are: I basically contact advertising outlets & other bloggers/sites looking for collaborations or interviews, create ads to promote her new blog, other graphic work, come up with ideas, research printing sites for best options for her products, (sneak peek: tote bags, holiday greeting cards, iphone covers, etc!) make lists of research (yay! I love making lists – guilty pleasure!) and a bunch of other fun stuff!

The Scoop/FAQ‘s;
Well firstly, I’m so blessed for getting the chance to work with such a dedicated, generous, and genuinely wonderful person!!  Jenn is a dream to work for/with.    She’s most definitely not a “boss” – more like a penpal/big sister.  In the new year I plan to  visit NYC to meet her – so excited!!  (Note: Any bloggers based in NY?  I’d love to meet up with you too!)

Q: What is your schedule (specific hours) like?
A: I really don’t have specific hours, I try to look at it as an actual job though and work actual job hours mostly.  But since I’m working at home, I’m able to have lovely breaks whenever I need to. We basically email back and forth throughout the day, and if any tasks come up, I’m happy to do them!

Q: How did you meet her?
A: I think it was either through Facebook or DeviantART – gotta love the internet!  I basically fell in love with her work at first sight. (or click)

Q: How did you score the internship?
A: I almost didn’t apply – but I basically applied on a whim, crossed my fingers, and waited.  (don’t ever doubt yourself!!)  Then one day (in September) she emailed me – and it still feels like it’s a dream!

Q: What are you/will you be getting out of this?
A: Tons of super fun knowledge about the industry, anatomy and painting lessons, lovely care packages with goodies (postcards, prints, etc!), possible college credits, a good lookin’ resume, and a wonderful mentor/friendship.  (WAY much better than money anytime!!)

What I’ve learned this month;

• Always go for it, even if you don’t think you can do it/or don’t think you’re qualified enough.
• How much I love Photoshop and graphic work – and how fast I can whip something up!
• Not to be shy in sharing your ideas/opinion
• Find something you love and make it a career – Jenn is a fine example of this!!
• Never, ever give up on your dreams!
• The fashion industry seriously isn’t pretty. (but I’m sure that’s a given)
• How much fun interning is – I’m addicted!
